AREL Students Draw Attention to Unconscious Consuming News
AREL College 4th grade students chose “Unconscious Consuming” as the topic of their PYP Exhibition Unit. AREL Primary School students shared the outcomes of the Exhibition Unit with the learning community for the 11th time this year. This year, 4th grade students’ motto was: “In order to consume you need to produce first”
In the final year of the PYP, students participated in a culminating project called the PYP Exhibition. The project requires each student to demonstrate an engagement with the five essential elements of the program. The exhibition represents a very significant event in the life of a PYP school and its students. It is an exceptional opportunity for the students to exhibit the attributes of the learner profile that is constantly developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. Students are required to engage in a collaborative and transdisciplinary inquiry process in order to identify issues or problems and investigate and offer solutions.
The exhibition took place on May 25, 2017 with the participation of parents, students, administrators and teachers. The 4th grade students made a presentation by combining ICT, dance, music and drama. AREL College students donated the funds they raised from the food sales to KAÇUV (Kanserli Çocuklara Umut Vakfı / The Hope Foundation for Children with Cancer) and the Animal Rights Federation.
FODER (Finansal Okur Yazarlık ve Erişim Derneği / Financial Literacy and Inclusion Association), founded in November 2012 as Turkey's first NGO concerning financial literacy, came to our school and gave lectures on financial knowledge, financial behaviour, financial attitude and financial literacy. At the end of these lectures, students received their certificates.
