James Monk

James MONKJames Monk is the head of curriculum for Diploma Programme languages at the International Baccalaureate. He has served in this role for four years and currently works in the IB Africa, Europe and Middle East Global Centre in The Hague, The Netherlands. James holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Pennsylvania and came to the IB after ten years teaching Spanish and French language and literature at the secondary and post-secondary levels, and four years serving as director of world languages and cultures curriculum and assessment development for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program.

Developments in the IB Diploma Programme

This session intended for candidate schools and IB World Schools delivering the IB Diploma Programme will provide an overview of recent developments and future initiatives in the programme. The session has three main goals: to provide up-to-date information about the IB DP, to present and gather feedback on ideas for future initiatives, and to answer questions about implementing the programme. Among the topics to be discussed will be the Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) initiative and preliminary results of research into the workload and well-being of IB DP students.
