AREL STUDENTS DRAW ATTENTION TO IMMIGRATION News

AREL College 4th grade students drew the attention of the public to the “immigration” issue, one of the most important problems of the world, within the Exhibition unit that they prepared for the 12th time this year. They conveyed the results of their research to the audience with a presentation they made at the school. Within the scope of the Exhibition unit, students inquired about the reasons for immigration, results of immigration and our responsibilities for immigration and identified the effects of immigration. After all the research conducted, groups identified the real problems that may lead them to their actions, examined resources for finding solutions and made observations. Students made interviews with prominent people and authorities such as Bahçelievler Mayor Osman Develioğlu, İstanbul Bilgi University’s Center for Migration Research, Lausanne Mutual Fund Foundation, Refugees Association and Genco Erkal who is one of the most important actors of the Turkish drama. Genco Erkal, who attracted attention to the issue with his play called “Göçmenleeeer”, sent a video to our students in order to support them on the day of their presentation. In the final year of the PYP, students participated in a graduation project called the PYP exhibition. The project requires each student to demonstrate engagement with five essential elements of the Programme. The exhibition represents a significant event in the life of a PYP school and student. It is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the learner profile that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. Students are required to engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. This year’s exhibition was titled “Immigration”. The exhibition was prepared by the 4th grade students at AREL College. The exhibition took place on May 30, 2018 with the participation of parents, students, administrators and teachers. 4th grade students made a presentation by utilizing ICT, dance, music and drama. AREL students donated the fund they had raised from the food sales to KAÇUV (The Hope Foundation for Children with Cancer).
